A Morning Prayer and a Forgotten Name
Introduction
This morning during prayer, I found myself speaking about a woman whose devotion to God continues to inspire generations. In that moment, I couldn’t recall her name, but her story and impact were stirring deeply in my spirit.
Later, I remembered.
Her name was Susanna Wesley.
Who Was Susanna Wesley?
Susanna Wesley, often called the Mother of Methodism, was a woman of deep faith, discipline, and unwavering prayer. She raised nineteen children — ten of whom survived — including John and Charles Wesley, whose lives would later ignite revival through the Methodist movement.
Her quiet strength, persistent obedience, and commitment to prayer shaped not only her household, but the history of the Church.

Even when I couldn’t remember her name, the Spirit of God was reminding me of her heart of obedience and of how much can be birthed through a praying life.
Her Legacy of Obedience and Prayer
Susanna Wesley’s life was far from easy. Financial hardship, the loss of children, and personal trials marked her journey. Yet, in the midst of it all, she carved out sacred space for prayer.
She was known to sit in her kitchen with her apron pulled over her head — a simple but powerful signal to her children that “Mama was with God.” In those moments, she interceded for each child by name and lifted her household before the throne of grace.
Her obedience overflowed into blessings — not only for her children, but for generations to come. John Wesley himself testified that much of what he carried was rooted in the prayers and teachings of his mother.
A Lesson for Our Healing and Growth
What does Susanna’s story mean for us today?
Prayer creates legacy. Every whispered prayer shapes not just our present, but future generations.
Obedience brings overflow. As Deuteronomy 28:2 reminds us:
“And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.”
God honours faithfulness in hidden places. You don’t have to be seen by the world to be heard by God.
Her story challenges us to see our quiet prayers, our daily obedience, and our faith through trials as seeds of greatness that God multiplies.

Which area of my life is God asking me to obey Him more fully?

Prayer Declaration
Father, I thank You for the gift of a new month and for the reminder of Susanna Wesley’s life. Today, I choose obedience and a renewed commitment to prayer. As I align my life with Your Word, let Your blessings overtake me in my health, family, finances, and spirit. May I leave behind a legacy of faith and fruitfulness for generations to come. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
