Turning 40: Embracing a New Chapter of Life

Intro Paragraph

Turning 40 isn’t just another birthday; it’s a deeply emotional milestone. For me, it hasn’t been about balloons or cake. It’s been about quiet reflection, unanswered prayers, and the courage to face a new chapter with God by my side.

In this week’s podcast episode, Turning 40: The Next Chapter, I open up about the realities of stepping into this new decade, the expectations I once had, the disappointments I’ve wrestled with, and the hope I’m daring to embrace again.

The Weight of Expectations

When I was in my 30s, I poured my heart and soul into my marriage, my family, and our ministry. I prayed, worked, and believed that by 40, I would be living in the overflow — resting in wealth, stability, and the fruits of years of sacrifice.

But instead, I find myself in a different reality. I still need a new home, resources are tight, and there are days I feel too tired to keep pushing. On top of that, the weight of single motherhood sometimes makes me question whether my children will have enough.

This isn’t the life I imagined for 40. But here’s what I’m learning: God doesn’t measure success the way we do. What feels like failure to me might just be the foundation for a greater testimony.

The Beauty of Reflection

This week, I’ve been unusually quiet. I’ve taken time to reflect, journal, and sit with God as I prepare to step into what many call the “fourth floor.”

Reflection is powerful. It forces us to look back but also to ask: What do I want the next chapter to look like? I realised that even though my journey has been filled with pain, betrayal, and loss, it has also made me resilient, grounded, and more aware of who I am in Christ.

In the podcast, I share some of these reflections and how they’re shaping the way I’m entering this new season.

Embracing Change with Faith

Turning 40 means embracing change. For me, change has been unexpected — widowhood, single motherhood, and financial pressure — but I believe it’s also where God does His best work.

Many people find clarity and identity in their 40s. For us as believers, this is more than identity; it’s destiny. God uses change to realign us with His purpose. In this episode, I share how I’m learning not to fear change but to see it as the soil where new growth takes root.

Designing Your Life with God

This week, I listened to a podcast by Mel Robbins where she shared an exercise about designing your life ten years from now — without obstacles.

The challenge is simple: write an essay about your life ten years from now if nothing held you back. Where would you be? Who would you become?

On my podcast, I share how I’m approaching this exercise with a God-centred perspective, inviting Him into the vision and allowing faith, not fear, to shape the future.

Together, we can dream again — not as wishful thinkers, but as believers who trust that with God, all things are possible.

Setting New Goals and Finding Strength

At 40, goals look different. It’s no longer about proving myself; it’s about walking in purpose.

In the episode, I talk about reframing goals into small, daily steps and aligning them with God’s promises. I also share the importance of self-care — protecting your mind, honouring your body, and surrounding yourself with relationships that build rather than drain.

A New Chapter Awaits

Turning 40 is not the end of the story; it’s the beginning of a new one. It’s not about what I’ve lost, but about what God is yet to restore.

If you’ve ever looked at your life and thought, “By now, I should have been further along,” this episode is for you.
